How to resize your watch

Get the perfect fit at home with our watch link removal tool (sold separately). It takes about five minutes. Go slowly, work on a soft cloth, and keep any spare links and pins somewhere safe.

What you'll need

  • Watch link removal tool: sold separately. It holds the bracelet steady and pushes the pins out cleanly
  • A soft cloth or towel to work on
  • A small dish to keep pins safe
  • Good light

Shop the resizing tool

Before you start

Work on a soft cloth or towel in good light, and go slowly. The pins are tiny, so keep a small dish beside you.

Every change you make should be even on both sides of the clasp, so the watch sits centred on your wrist.

Step by step

Two spare watch links
1

Try on your watch

Put the watch on and close the clasp. If it feels loose, pinch the bracelet together underneath your wrist until it sits comfortably and count the links you're pinching. That's how many to remove.

If it's too tight, don't worry. Your watch comes with 2 additional links so you can make it bigger.

TipAlways remove or add links evenly on both sides of the clasp so it stays centred under your wrist.

2

Find the arrows

Turn the bracelet over. On the inside of each removable link you'll see a small arrow. It shows which direction the pin pushes out, so always follow it.

TipOnly links with an arrow are removable. Links without one are fixed.

3

Position the bracelet in the tool

Lay the bracelet flat in the tool's channel, inside facing up, so the arrow points away from the screw. Line the tool's pin up exactly with the pin hole on the edge of the link.

Take careMake sure the tool pin sits exactly on the bracelet pin before you turn. If it's off-centre you can bend the tool or scratch the link.

4

Push the pin out

Slowly turn the knob clockwise to drive the tool's pin forward. It will push the bracelet pin out of the other side of the link. Once it's far enough out, wind the knob back and pull the pin the rest of the way with your fingers. Repeat on the other side of the link to free it.

TipPop each pin into a small dish as you go. They're tiny and you'll need one to reconnect the bracelet.

5

Remove or add links

Take out the number of links you counted in step 1, evenly from both sides of the clasp.

Making it bigger? Open the bracelet the same way and fit one or both of your additional links into the gap.

TipKeep any links you remove with your spare links. You can add them back any time.

6

Reconnect the bracelet

Line the two ends back up and push the pin in by hand, plain end first, against the direction of the arrow. Then turn the bracelet around in the tool so the arrow points towards the screw, and carefully wind the knob to push the pin the rest of the way until it sits flush.

Take careGo slowly and stop as soon as the pin is flush with the edge of the link. Forcing it can scratch the bracelet.
7

Check the fit

Close the clasp and try it on. You should be able to slide one finger between the bracelet and your wrist. Too tight? Add a link back. Too loose? Remove one more.

Good to know

What are the 2 additional links for?

They let you make the bracelet bigger if it's too snug out of the box. Keep them somewhere safe even if you don't need them now.

I've taken out too many links. What now?

No problem. Just add one back. Line up the link, push a pin in against the arrow and press it flush with the tool.

I don't have the tool. Can a jeweller do it?

Yes. Any jeweller or watch repair counter can resize a link bracelet in a few minutes. If you'd like to adjust it yourself now and again, the resizing tool is a handy one to keep at home.

A pin bent or I lost one.

No problem. There are extra links and pins included in the box, so just use one of the spares.

Should I size it tight or loose?

Aim for about a finger's width of space. Wrists swell slightly in warm weather and later in the day, so a little room keeps it comfortable.
